Truetone Fretless Run
At Truetone Music, we love Fender Custom Shop Basses. We know that bass players recognize that this is where some of the world’s greatest basses are made. We also know that they can do more (much more) than recreate the iconic models from the ’50’s and ’60’s. There’s an opportunity to create something new, something different. There’s where we went with this bass: it’s modeled after a 1964 Jazz, but fretless. We did this specifically because no one else is – the only Custom Shop fretless basses you see out there is the Jaco Pastorius model. While we love that bass, we wanted to do something different, not a signature model, to create something truly unique. This is the third in a run of fretless basses we cooked up with the Custom Shop, and the only one like it to exist.
For this ’64 Jazz Bass, we went with the Time Capsule finish, where it’s a thin Flash Coat Nitrocellulose Lacquer and the hardware is faded slightly (Closet Classic). The Custom Shop has nailed this process, to create the look of a vintage bass that was never played – it’s like it came out of the factory yesterday, if yesterday was 60 years ago. Hence the “Time Capsule” moniker. This looks absolutely sublime in Natural Blonde. The transparent finish is perfect to see the nice grain of the ash body.
